This summer I did something a little bit mental. And when I say mental, I mean it wasn’t like me.
I quit my job.
My stable Copywriting job in London that I had been in for 6 years.
I quit. Without a back up plan.
Well kind of. I had some kind of plan, but no idea how said plan was actually going to work out.
What was the plan? I hear you asking. Well, let me tell you. It truly was a groundbreaking decision - I was going to be a Freelance Copywriter and make my millions.
Oh what a dream.
A dream that has come true. Not the millionaire part, but I am now a Freelance Copywriter, exploring the internet for my next project whilst holding on tightly to the pennies that I do still have.
But why am I telling you this story and what does it have to do with the title of this post? When I quit my job, before launching myself into a freelance career, I took some time out and spent 2 months in Lapland, Finland. And let me tell you now, it was the best decision I have ever made.
Why Lapland?
First reason: I’m extremely lucky, back in 2007 my dad bought a log cabin in Akaslompolo, a small village above the arctic circle. It’s honestly the most beautiful, peaceful place in the world (well, of all the places I’ve visited anyway).

Second reason: This one goes hand in hand with the above - in all the years I have been going to Lapland, I have never been in the summer. Every winter I go and chuck myself down a mountain on a snowboard, but this year I wanted to try something new.
Third reason: I really needed to get away. And when I say get away, I mean go to the middle of nowhere and just be left alone (aside from my husband). After working in London for 6 years and living in the city for 2, I had had enough. I felt stuck, I was way too overstimulated and I’d lost all sight of my goals.
So, off I flew, husband in tow, and 5 hours later we landed in Kittila.
Landing at 11pm above the arctic circle was not what I expected. In the dead of winter Lapland gets very few hours of sunlight. And in the summer, Lapland gets 24 hours of sun. So we landed with the sun beaming down on us. We grabbed our bags, hopped in the taxi and headed to our home away from home.
And it was all perfect, right?
Wrong…
I unlocked the cabin doors, put the key on the table and went outside to send a video of the midnight sun to my dad. As I walked away from the cabin I heard a click behind me followed by an “oh no.” Slowly I turned to find my husband outside of the cabin with me, door closed and both keys inside.
Want a laugh? Here's the TikTok I posted in the midst of the panic.
To cut a long story short, we panicked for a little bit, while getting eaten alive by mosquitos. I phoned my dad and he gave me the emergency number for Yllas Avain, the company who take care of the cabin for us. And thank God he had that number, because the sweetest man came to rescue us at 1am, letting us in with the spare key.
Safe to say I held on to the keys for the rest of our time lol.
So day one was not so successful, but the rest of the trip was absolutely amazing. We climbed mountains, made friends, celebrated the Midsummer solstice, swam in lakes and so much more.
Keep your eyes on the blog for a round up of everything we did - if you're thinking of visting Lapland in the summer, then you're going to want to read it all!
Bye for now,
Bronte x
